Donut skip Donut Bar

There is nothing more exciting than carb filled pastries of sugar coats and flour.  Of which can be found at a little, but vastly popular donut shop called Donut Bar.  There are two locations of this chain, one situated in San Diego, and the other in Orange County in the heart of the small city of Fountain Valley. There may be multiple donut shops throughout Orange County, possible one in every 5-10 mile radius from the other, but Donut Bar’s donuts are not your average donuts.

To begin, Donut Bar has round donuts ranging from the typical 4 inches in diameter to a whopping 8 inches in diameter. Most of the donuts are 8 inches, large enough that when one bite is taken from it, only a small fraction of the donut is gone… small enough to qualify as if the donut has not even been eaten yet. This makes the large donuts perfect for sharing.  When I usually go to Donut Bar with my sisters and cousins, we usually order our own donut flavors and cut our donuts into fours to trade.  That way we get a taste of a variety of the exotic Donut Bar flavors.

Speaking of exotic flavors, Donut Bar definitely has a menu unlike any other donut shop I have been to in Orange County. They have a Mexican Hot Chocolate Donut, which is a large circular fluffy donut covered on top with rich dark-milk chocolate and sprinkled with mini, lightly torched marshmallows to add in a campfire taste to the pastry. There also is, one of my favorites, a Caramel Latte Donut, another large circular, fluffy concoction covered on top with a sweet, homemade caramel frosting with vanilla creme in the donut hole and drizzled with caramel sauce in a criss-cut pattern. Other great flavors, too, exist within the window of the Donut Bar shops.  There are so many different flavors, that it does get overwhelming and hard to choose which donut you would like… because you just want all the flavors! Check out the other delicious flavors on Donut Bar’s website menu here.

Prices for their flavors range from about $2 to $4 per donut, depending upon which donut you have chosen.  Sometimes, if you are lucky, you can get into Donut Bar during happy hour, where you can get a full box of Donuts, stuffed with whichever donuts you want that are available for $10. That is a great steal! One box alone can fit over 10 donuts, so during Happy Hour you are saving over $20, and you get a variety of delicious donuts for yourself (wink wink) or to share.

The Donut Bar shops usually sell out super quick, so most of the shops are not open after 1 PM or 2 PM, depending on whether their shop was busy that specific day or not.  Sometimes, their donuts may even sell out before noon, especially on the weekends. On some weekends, however, Donut Bar reopens around 7 PM for the night time. To keep up with when they are open during the night, follow Donut Bar OC on Instagram! Their Instagram has giveaways for donuts, times of opening, their next day menus, and also announces what type donuts will be available for children for free!
